Axed GP home visit is real pain

-

Hello again, by the way. I was off last week – what do you mean, you didn’t notice? I couldn’t get dressed, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t walk, cried with the excruciating pain and couldn’t even contemplate sitting at my computer.

My back went, as it periodically does. Agony doesn’t even go there. I’d rather have 20 babies in a row without pain relief, that’s how bad it is.

All I can say is thank you diazepam & several other controlled prescription drugs. And that from someone who normally won’t even take paracetamol.

However, when it happens it always gets me thinking how people less fortunate than me manage. You can’t move, so you can’t visit your GP.

Doctors don’t do home visits any more. You can’t phone your local chemist and request delivery of controlled drugs. So what are you left with? Call an ambulance. Add to A&E’s burden?

Unless you can afford a call-out private doctor, which I did. Got my drugs, slept like a baby, gradually got my movement back and I’m now at my computer. Lucky me. But I’m angry that I was able to do that. Most people can’t.
