DEEN AIMS TO BREAK THE ICE

- FROM PIPPA FIELD in PyeongChang

HE has served with the Grenadier Guards in Bosnia and Kosovo, now British bobsledder Lamin Deen faces a fight of a different kind on the ice.

Deen (right) will pilot one of the two British four-man crews this weekend as the nation looks for a first Olympic bobsleigh medal since Sean Olsson led his team to joint-bronze at Nagano 1998.

Both have podiumed at World Cup level this season, although they have been off the pace in training this week with ‘Team Deen’ finishing inside the top 10 on just half of the six runs. Deen said: “Just being on the back foot gives you more to fight for as we’re a fighting crew. We can defend when we need to but we always like to fight. “Imagine sticking your head out of the car doing 99mph on a motorway, that’s what bobsleigh is like.” Watch Team GB’s four-man teams at 9.30am today and tomorrow on Eurosport 1.
