McNicol quits Labour’s top backroom job

-

LABOUR’S general secretary Iain McNicol is quitting after seven years.

His resignation follows claims allies of Jeremy Corbyn wanted him out.

Mr Corbyn yesterday thanked Mr McNicol for his “dedicated service”.

Mr McNicol had angered Mr Corbyn’s allies when they believed he was involved in trying to stop him being automatically put on the ballot paper in a leadership challenge.

Mr McNicol said he wanted “to pursue new challenges” in the Party and labour movement.

He added: “It’s been an absolute honour and a privilege.”
