Gran Steph fights back twice over

-

COURAGE Stephanie STEPHANIE Gardner, 62, from Aylesbury, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999, when her youngest daughter Felicity was a year old.

A mastectomy was followed by chemo and radiotherapy but, five years later, Stephanie was diagnosed with breast cancer again and had more treatment.

Today Felicity is in her first year at Bristol University and Stephanie, a grandmother, is looking forward to her husband’s 70th birthday in July.

Several relatives have faults in the BRCA1 gene, which puts them at more risk of developing certain types of cancer.

Stephanie added: “In my mother’s time it was a death sentence but more of this generation are learning to live with it, which is fantastic.”
