WORLD OF DOUBT FOR GREG

- BY ALEX SPINK

GREG RUTHERFORD has declared himself a doubt for the World Indoors after falling short of expectations in Glasgow.

Britain’s long-jump star accepted a ‘host nation’ wild card spot for Birmingham after winning the UK title last week on his comeback from ankle surgery.

He did so with the proviso that he jumped eight metres at the Glasgow Grand Prix – but could finish only fourth with a best of 7.89m. The 2012 Olympic champion (right) will make a final decision in the next 48 hours but said: “It doesn’t look good at the moment, to be totally honest. I am not there to make up the numbers – I am there to win medals.

“I said I wanted to jump over eight metres and that would solidify me definitely going. That’s obviously not happened.” Elsewhere, race-walker Tom Bosworth broke the 17-year-old world record for 3,000m, winning in 10:30.28.

Dina Asher-Smith equalled her lifetime best (7.08secs) and beat Olympic champion Elaine Thompson en route to taking second place over 60m.

CJ Ujah paid for his fifth race in a fortnight as he finished fifth in the men’s 60m.
