4. WHAT’S GOING ON WITH HER SON EDWARD?

There’s often trouble with sons in crime dramas – just look at Doctor Foster and Kiri. Now we need to talk about Edward.

It can’t be easy splitting your life between your aggressive father – with his new, younger, model girlfriend – and your tormented and largely-absent mother, who happens to be sleeping with her boss (DCI Tim Williamson, played by Jamie Bamber).

That’s not to mention the trauma of schoolfriend Leo being found rotted in a wall, having gone missing on the day you should have been walking home together. Even Leo’s mum is angry,

blaming Marcella for the fact that her son left Leo alone that day, and Marcella has warned Edward to keep his head down.

But it seems something else is afoot. Why is Edward stroking a laboratory mouse with a murderous look in his eye, as if he’s a Bond villain?

Does he perhaps know something more about what happened that day? (We think he does.)

And was the case linked to Eric, the thug who we believe has snatched Adam as he walked through an underpass? Adam clearly has his own issues, doodling bloody drawings of his father. But will he survive?
