Man U player Herrera ‘may face jail term’
PROSECUTORS are calling for Man United star Ander Herrera to be jailed over match-fixing allegations.
They claim he is one of nine Zaragoza players who paid Levante €965,000 to throw a match in May 2011 to avoid relegation.
Earlier this month midfielder Herrera said: “I have never had, and never will have, anything to do with manipulating match results.” All of the players strongly deny wrongdoing.
Lawyers for Spain’s La Liga league want to double the two-year term state prosecutors are pushing for in a parallel case.
A four-year term would mean jail time, as lighter sentences for first-time offenders in Spain are usually suspended.
They also want a sixyear football ban.
