Titanic ‘gaffe’ medals sold
MEDALS awarded to a Titanic crewman who may have unwittingly caused the disaster are being sold.
Second officer David Blair was dropped from the crew at Southampton just before its fatal voyage.
But he failed to hand in a key to a locker containing the crow’s nest binoculars.
Mr Blair, who won nine medals in his Merchant Navy career, died aged 80 in 1955. They are up for auction at Hansons, Etwall, Derby, on March 19.
