Killed rival’s family told to pay £35k
THE family of a man probably killed on the orders of Nicholas van Hoogstraten must pay the tycoon’s children £35,000 in legal costs.
He was convicted of the manslaughter of business rival Mohammed Raja, who was stabbed and shot in South London in 1999.
The verdict was overturned on appeal then Mr Raja’s family was awarded £6million in a civil case but the money was never paid.
Van Hoogstraten, 73, is being sued by Mr Raja’s family who say properties they wanted sold were in trusts for his six children.
Mr Justice Morgan called his conduct “deplorable” but not illegal. He told the High Court: “I’m not able to give him…his just deserts.” The Rajas must pay £35,000 of the legal bill.
Mr Raja’s killers got life.
