BBC2, 9pm A story of American gun crime, sadly a particularly timely subject. And this drama certainly shows how easy it is for someone to go and buy a gun and shoot someone to death.

Following the hugely successful The People Vs OJ Simpson, this second series recounts the well-known case of the assassination of international fashion icon Gianni Versace. On July 15, 1997, Versace (played by Edgar Ramirez) is shot by Andrew Cunanan (Glee’s Darren Criss) on the steps of Versace’s Miami villa. The 50-year-old designer, returning from a morning walk, dies later in hospital.

With beautiful locations and soaring classical music, this is a classy drama that flips back and forth in time, from a first meeting between Versace and Cunanan back in 1990 to the murder.

Watch out for Penelope Cruz, as Versace’s sister Donatella, while Ricky Martin plays his partner Antonio.
