PUT N.I. TO THE VOTE
Surely nobody in Northern Ireland really wants to see direct rule from Westminster reintroduced? I understand that the DUP and Sinn Fein have different views on the subjects of the Irish language and same-sex marriage. But there is a simple way to solve the problem – put it to a referendum of all the people of Northern Ireland. The phrasing could be agreed by both parties and the Electoral Commission. I find it unbelievable that train companies are running restricted services, even before a snowflake has fallen. This would never have happened under British Rail. Yes, there were problems back then, but they were caused by massive underinvestment after the war. Today’s rail operators don’t have any excuse. K D Thornhill South East London
