KLOPP WAS SURE TO BE HERO RIGHT FROM START

- BY MIKE WALTERS

JORDAN HENDERSON knew Jurgen Klopp would be a perfect fit for Liverpool before the German had even set foot at Anfield. As an intrigued punter, Henderson flew out to Spain and watched Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund survive a Champions League siege in the Bernabeu to beat Real Madrid (Cristiano Ronaldo, right, included) 4-3 on aggregate in a thrilling semi-final five years ago. The German side had beaten Jose Mourinho’s Madrid 4-1 in the first leg thanks to four goals from Robert Lewandoski.

England star Henderson (above, with Klopp) said: “I knew he was special before I even started working with him. His team was outstanding that night in Madrid.

“Although they lost the final against Bayern Munich at Wembley, as a team they were exceptional. You could see how organised they were, how hard they worked for each other. A lot of that was down to Jurgen Klopp. “A lot of people admired his work at Dortmund and when he came to Liverpool I knew how special he would be. I couldn’t wait to start working with him in training and be part of something special – and I still feel the team he is building at Anfield can be very special in the near future.”
