MUZZA’S MARCH TO QUEEN’S CLUB

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

ANDY MURRAY will be back on the tennis court this month and could return to action before the grass court season. The double Olympic champion (left) underwent surgery on his nagging hip injury on January 8, and had targeted a June comeback. But the Scot, 30, is already working in the gym and doing regular pilates sessions. Murray now plans to return to the practice court by the end of the month and then slowly increase the intensity of his training – including a warm-weather block – until he is ready.

The Queen’s Club Championship on June 18 remains his most likely comeback tournament.

The former world No.1 has not played since Wimbledon and, after making a brief comeback in Abu Dhabi before pulling out of Brisbane, is determined to be fully fit before his return. Former world No.1 Boris Becker said: “Tennis needs him – it is not the same without Andy. He got this problem and stopped when he was No.1 in the world.

“Once he’s fully fit, he’s one of the best players in the world. Then it’s a question of time. How much will you give yourself to come back to the level you had before? I hope he does.”

Murray has fallen to world No.21 and is set to lose his British No.1 ranking to Kyle Edmund next week.
