JAMIE’S TORN LOYALTIES

- BY GARETH WALKER

JAMIE ELLIS would have been lining up for Hull KR not Castleford tonight if he’d got his own way.

The goal-kicking half-back played 30 times for Rovers in last year’s promotion campaign, racking up 349 points while on loan from Huddersfield. His first choice was to stay with the Robins, but when that move failed to materialise he soon found himself starting a second spell with the Tigers, where he spent three seasons between 2012 and 2014.

Tonight he makes a rapid return to the club he helped back into Super League, but has no regrets about the way events have unfolded. Ellis (right) said: “When we got promoted I had my sights set on staying there to be fair – I really wanted to if I’m honest.

“But nothing came of it. I don’t really know what happened with Huddersfield and Hull KR, whether they couldn’t come to an agreement. But as soon as I heard Castleford were on the phone, it was too big an opportunity to turn down.

“Having been here before, knowing the lads and how well they did last year, I was thinking I want to be in those games and playing Grand Finals with them.”
