IT’S JOY OF SIX FOR ED BOY CLANCY

- BY MIKE WALTERS

ED CLANCY’S sixth sense brought more glory to Britain as Laura Kenny followed her husband’s silver medal into the realm of silver linings.

Three-time Olympic champion Clancy led the Brits to team pursuit gold at the UCI track cycling world championships in Apeldoorn.

And 24 hours after Jason Kenny decorated his comeback with silver in the men’s team sprint, his missus achieved a matching silver in the women’s team pursuit just six months after giving birth to their son Albie.

Britain’s quartet of Kenny, Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker and Emily Nelson led at the halfway stage against the United States.

But the USA turned on the afterburners to deny Kenny a golden comeback and Archibald admitted: “There’s the jubilation of watching the lads win, but you give it five minutes and it turns to envy. We want to be on the top step again – we are capable.”

For the men’s chain gang – Clancy, Charlie Tanfield, Ethan Hayter and Kian Emadi – it was the first world championship glory since 2012.

Clancy, who saw off Denmark for his sixth rainbow jersey, said: “It feels pretty epic – I’m 33 next week so you take every win you can get.”
