With regards to waste plastic, instead of the 5p charge for carrier bags, someone should start a campaign to have a 5p deposit on bags to encourage people not to throw them away. We could also have a deposit on all plastic bottles and aluminium cans.

Eventually, almost all packaging could have deposits. I think this would make ecological sense and would perhaps save councils as they wouldn’t have as much rubbish to collect.

How health and safety has changed. I had a two-mile walk to my school, fighting through deep snow and sitting in the classroom with our coats when the heating broke down.

Our school never closed, but today a couple of flakes fall and everything comes to a standstill.

It’s pathetic.

GPs are reportedly being offered bonuses to keep patients away from hospital (Mirror, February 28). What planet are these people on? We’ve already paid for these services through National Insurance contributi­ons.
