Fleet has new Welsh warrior

-

A NEW Royal Navy warship is to be called HMS Cardiff, Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said.

The Type 26 vessel “will be a terrific tribute to Wales and its capital city,” he announced on St David’s Day yesterday.

It is the third to be named of eight City Class frigates that will replace the Type 23 Duke class.

The last HMS Cardiff, a Type 42 destroyer, was retired in 2005 after action in the 1982 Falklands War and the 1991 Gulf War.
