Power to the people

-

GAS shortage warnings when we live in one of the world’s great industrial economies are an indictment of an energy sector that’s simply not up to the job.

No wonder renationalising power, taking privatised corporations back under public ownership and control, is popular – because alarm bells shouldn’t be ringing in an essential public sector.

If companies had put half as much effort into investment as they do into generating profits for shareholders and paying fatcat salaries and bonuses, nobody would be worried.

We’ve had electricity alerts in the past and the gas threat is equally unacceptable. The capacity and reserves should be so big a Beast from the East is easily tamed.

Let’s turn up the heat on an energy industry that we’d like back where it belongs – safely in public hands.
