WEMBLEY? I GO WITH THE
SWITZERLAND defender Florent Hadergjonaj hopes his Wembley debut can drive him towards a personal double – Premier League survival and a meeting with Brazil.
He had yet to join Huddersfield when they won promotion to the top flight by beating Reading at the national stadium in last May’s Championship play-off final.
And when he did arrive on a season’s loan from German club Ingolstadt, the right-back, 23, (above) had to wait for his chance – as he did not make his first league start until November.
He is now a regular for David Wagner’s side and is set to line up against Harry Kane and Co when Huddersfield play Spurs at Wembley today.
Hadergjonaj, who also wants to cement a place in the Swiss team for their World Cup opener against Brazil in June, said: “I am very confident from the belief that I have from the manager. He has helped me move a step forward.
“I said two months ago that maybe my defensive work has to be better, and now it is a little bit more, because I speak a lot with the manager.
“Now the chances are here. I have to play my games here, and we will see what happens for the World Cup. But yeah, the chances are here.”
Huddersfield have the option to make Hadergjonaj’s loan deal permanent, and he would be happy to stay in Yorkshire – despite the recent bad weather.
He joked: “Maybe I have brought the snow from Switzerland.”
