Prem to veto VAR

-

FOOTBALL’S lawmakers are set to approve the use of VAR today, but the Premier League is set to resist it.

The IFAB will vote on the video review system at a meeting in Zurich and it is expected to be given the green light for this summer’s World Cup.

The system has been in use in the League Cup and FA Cup this term and has drawn criticism for confusion and delays.

Sports minister Tracey Crouch (above) said: “Keeping fans in the dark for two minutes like at Spurs this week is bad for football’s pace and passion.”

The Premier League said: “We are closely monitoring the trials.”
