Teen gets life for Bieber gig ‘river of blood’ terrorist plot
A BABY-FACED Islamic State sympathiser was jailed for life for plotting a truck attack on the day of a Justin Bieber concert.
Police found a martyrdom note, knife and hammer in Lloyd Gunton’s rucksack hours before the planned atrocity.
The 17-year-old, who described himself as a “soldier of IS”, wrote on Instagram: “May Allah bring terrorism to Cardiff on 30th June.”
Another post read: “The attack will be deadly. May the infidels get hit by vehicles. May the blood flow like rivers.”
Gunton had researched how to carry out a vehicle
attack, how to stab and kill and had looked at security arrangements for Bieber’s Principality Stadium concert. The farmer’s son, who has autism, was arrested at his parents’ home near Llantrisant, South Wales.
Yesterday at Birmingham crown court he was convicted of preparing for and encouraging terrorism.
Judge Mark Wall QC told him he must serve at least 11 years and added: “It’s not possible to estimate how many people would have been murdered or seriously injured.”
In his martyrdom letter, rugby-loving Gunton wrote: “I am a soldier of the Islamic State. I have attacked Cardiff today because your government keep on bombing IS.”
A family friend said: “He was just a nice young man. No one could ever believe he’d become a terrorist.”
