Tackle big businesses

-

AS a nation we need to eat less so let’s force the food industry to behave responsibly instead of asking it nicely.

Reducing calories in the likes of pizzas, pastas, crisps and chips should be mandatory, enforced in law, when healthier alternatives can easily be fed into production chains.

We must take responsibility for what we eat, but it is an unequal battle against corporations spending fortunes on advertising and a fastfood culture urging us not to cook at home.

Obesity is the path to an early grave and opponents screaming about a “nanny state” should look to the healthy, wealthy and powerful who believe nanny knows best – and employ them to look after their own children.

Public Health England has our best interests at heart, unlike many of its critics, and avoiding 35,000 early deaths and saving the NHS and social care £9billion in 25 years is a noble goal.
