Aid charity predators warned as 80 new incidents reported
AID charities reported 80 new “safeguarding incidents” – in which people have been harmed or at risk of harm – to a watchdog in the past two weeks.
And International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt warned predators in the sector: “We will find you. We will bring you to justice. Your time is up.”
New reports to the Charity Commission came from 26 organ- isations, including seven which allegedly occurred in the past year. They include a “full spectrum” of incidents of harm or risk of harm, some involving children, a spokesman said. Tough rules are now in force over Government funding and, at a summit in the wake of the sex scandals in Syria and Haiti, Ms Mordaunt said: “Organisations should not bid unless they are prepared to meet these standards.”
