OAP snubs £100k for a 2-yard plot

- BY SARAH WARD

A WOMAN of 97 is refusing to give up two yards of garden to developers – and said not even £100,000 would change her mind.

The strip of Dolly Burton’s front garden is needed to widen a road so 49 houses can be built.

Dolly, who has been in the house 50 years, is said to have rejected a fivefigure sum from developers and Bristol Council.

She said: “They can offer me £100,000 and I still wouldn’t budge.

“The way they wanted it, they’d take most of the garden and it’d be awful.”

The council owns the land in Lockleaze but Dolly has to agree to any change.

Housing chief Cllr Paul Smith said she was “completely within her rights” and the existing road may have to be used.
