VOTER ID’S A BAD IDEA
# There were just 28 cases of alleged in-person voter fraud in 2017 (Mirror, March 2) with just one ending in a conviction. Yet in May, people in five areas will have to provide ID to vote in local elections in a trial measure.
This is intended to stop people voting twice, but showing ID would be a huge impediment. There are millions without photo ID who will be barred from expressing their democratic will.
This is a draconian measure, and should be urgently reviewed. Darren Hughes Chief Executive, Electoral Reform Society
# If the Government scrapped austerity and paid public workers sensible wages maybe our high streets could be saved from decline (Madeuthink, March 5).
Cap bosses’ pay at £200,000 a year and if they threaten to go abroad, let them.
Reinstate all our lost emergency service workers and pay them a rate which reflects the jobs they all do.
Then maybe people would have spare money to go shopping and reverse the decline. Marian Hernes Sutton, Surrey
# Apparently, another storm is on its way to the UK. It is blowing lots of hot air and is called the Pest from the West – otherwise known as Donald Trump. Dave Hawkins, Wigan
