CANCER EXPERTS SAVED MY HUBBIE
After an emergency appendectomy revealed that my husband had a very rare cancer of the appendix, he was referred to a specialist team in Basingstoke, almost 300 miles from our home. The cancer had spread from his appendix and became what’s called a Pseudomyxoma Peritonei.
It is now 16 months since his nine-hour extensive surgery.
Fortunately, the surgeons managed to save his spleen and gall bladder. This surgery concluded with a technique called Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) and a further four days of intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
In October 2017, 12 months after his surgery, a CT scan revealed no evidence of new disease.
We are so blessed that Jonathan’s local consultant was able to refer him to Basingstoke – the team there have ensured that our boys get to keep their dad. Fiona Jordan, Eaglescliffe, Co Durham
