Midwife vicar: I’ll be holding baby

Jack Ashton is not returning for the eighth series of Call the Midwife – so that his partner Helen George can.

His character, vicar Tom Hereward, will leave to get over the death of his wife Barbara to sepsis on Sunday.

Jack will look after baby daughter Wren while Helen returns as Trixie. He says: “I’ll be Daddy Daycare.”
