800 a year die in lung cancer lottery
SOME 800 lung cancer patients a year could be saved if they all had access to an equal level of care, a study suggests.
Survival varied from 55.2% in the best areas to 28.6% – meaning some patients were 59% more likely to die within a year. The study in journal Thorax was based on Public Health England data from 2005 and 2014. Prof Henrik Moller, of King’s College London, said the variations reflect “differences in clinical management”.
