I’d like to comment on the letter from the woman who admitted she had been screaming at her young children over “things that afterwards seem quite minor” (Dear Coleen, Feb 23).

I was subjected to continuous emotional abuse from my mother, which still affects me now at 72.

Admittedly, she doesn’t say what she screams and it might not be abusive but, whatever it is, it must frighten them, even if there are no more serious ramificati­ons.

I’m not writing to criticise this woman, but in the hope that it might spare children the potential lifelong effects I’ve suffered.

In my case, it affected my selfesteem to the point where I find it difficult to make friends. Margaret, North London
