FLOWERS CUT DOWN

- Edited by GRAHAM HISCOTT

Co-op Bank’s disgraced ex-chairman has finally been banned – five years after the bank nearly collapsed.

Paul Flowers, dubbed the Crystal Methodist, was forced to step down in 2013 amid a sex and drugs scandal. Church leaders later stripped him of his title of reverend.

The Financial Conduct Authority took action yesterday with the City watchdog banning him from working in financial services.

The reason wasn’t for failing to spot a £1.5billion hole in its accounts – but for using his work email for “sexually explicit messages” and his company mobile to make “inappropriate” calls to premium-rate chat lines.
