Little chance of lowest paid women ever saving up cash
MORE than a million low-paid female workers have no savings, a study says.
And 10% of 3.4 million women on less than the Real Living Wage have less than £100 in savings, the survey shows.
Living Wage Foundation chief Tess Lanning said: “This shows the precariousness of life for women earning little more than the legal Government minimum wage.
“More employers must take a stand by paying the Real Living Wage, based on what people actually need.” The LWF study was joined by a damning TUC report on International Women’s Day about the gender pay gap. Women on average effectively work for free 67 days of the year compared to male counterparts because they earn less, it said. A Young Women’s Trust poll of 150 MPs found most think bosses don’t do enough to fight women’s inequality.
