Cycles spark neck trauma
CYCLING accidents have become the biggest cause of broken necks.
The sport’s popularity has fuelled a fourfold rise in serious spine injuries, say scientists after a study of 50,000 patients.
Dr Mason DePasse, of Brown University in Rhode Island, US, said: “Cycling is the number one cause of neck fractures, which suggests we need to investigate in terms of safety.”
Previous big causes of neck injuries were car crashes and diving.
