GIRLFRIEND’S SEX HISTORY BOTHERS ME

I’ve recently got a new girlfriend and stopped sleeping around. I’m 28, so I’d been with a lot of women in my younger days.

My girlfriend is absolutely incredible. She’s gorgeous, funny, clever and we have loads in common. However, we recently had the conversation about exes and I was stunned that she’d slept with 24 men – she’s only 20.

That’s a lot less people than I’ve been with, so I know I’m being hypocritical, but I can’t help but see her a little differently.

I hate the idea of so many men seeing her the way I have. I don’t know how to broach the subject because, like I said, my number is a lot higher than hers. How do you think I should talk to her about this?

Coleen says I don’t think you should talk to her about it at all unless you want to come across as a needy, insecure and, yes, hypocritical dinosaur!

Why should the rules be different for her? This is your issue, not hers.

If you give her a hard time about it, my guess is she’ll dump you pretty quickly. These days, most people have a sexual history of one sort or another, and ‘history’ is the vital word here – it’s in the past.

You’re at the start of a new relationship and, while you might be head over heels and think she’s the greatest thing since sliced bread right now, you don’t know how things are going to play out when you start to get to know each other better.

My advice is, enjoy the relationship and getting to know her. See where it takes you – maybe to the altar, maybe not!
