Public opinion is vital
IT’S obvious Charles wants Camilla to be named Queen, but it will only be possible if public opinion is on his side.
That wasn’t the case in 2005, so aides released the statement about the secondary title Princess Consort.
People’s attitudes towards Camilla have softened over the years but the question of her title remains a sticking point – particularly sticky because of the fact that calling her Queen means the royals going back on their word.
So, however much the public warms to Camilla, the statement from Charles’ own household could end up being the biggest hurdle in making her his Queen.
