SCOTT: BIG MISTAKE TO FIGHT ME
SCOTT QUIGG has vowed Oscar Valdez will regret giving him a shot at his WBO featherweight title.
Valdez chose Quigg for his voluntary defence at the StubHub Centre in California, in the early hours of tomorrow, and the former IBF champ claims that will cost the unbeaten Mexican his crown.
Quigg, whose only pro loss was to Carl Frampton in 2016, is determined to seize his chance against the highlyrated Valdez on his US debut, and become a two-weight world champ.
“Oscar has been billed as the next featherweight star and, to be fair, he’s not put a foot wrong,” said Quigg.
“He is 23-0, 19 knockouts. But when the fight was offered, I told Eddie Hearn to snatch their hands off. This is a fight that excites me.
“He didn’t have to pick me. He could have chosen an easier defence. So, credit to him, but I’m going to make sure he regrets picking me.”
Quigg, 29, has sparred with Valdez and is predicting a tear-up when they clash, live on Sky Sports Main Event.
“The fans are going to be in for a real treat,” he added. “The Mexicans in the crowd will boo me in, but I’m planning on being cheered out.”
