Now Lidl axes the 5p carrier

-

LIDL is the latest store to banish 5p carrier bags in the war against plastic.

Shoppers who forget to bring one can buy bags for life instead at 9p.

The German-owned discount chain joins Aldi, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons in phasing out 5p bags by the end of the year.

Lidl has also promised to make all its own-brand packaging either recyclable or reusable by 2025.

Boss Christian Hartnagel said: “Our business and the wider industry needs to take big steps.”
