KLOPP STAR PAP IS MAN FOR UNITED

- EXCLUSIVE BY DAVID McDONNELL

MANCHESTER UNITED are considering a summer swoop for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

United have watched the £20millionrated Greece defender several times in recent weeks, with boss Jose Mourinho needing a centre-back this summer.

Although United are hopeful of signing Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, Sokratis is also on their radar and a much more achievable target.

The 29-year-old was signed by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in 2013 when he was in charge of Dortmund and has been a reliable centre-back for the German side.

Chelsea have also been looking at Sokratis, but United are understood to be at the head of the queue.

Mourinho is looking to bring in at least one new centre-back this summer to partner Eric Bailly, as well as a left-back and a holding midfield player, with both Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick on their way out.
