NOW KLOPP A LOAD OF THAT, SOU!

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

JURGEN KLOPP hit back at Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness for criticising young defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Kop idols Carragher and Souness (below), now pundits for Sky Sports, laid into AlexanderArnold for his perceived poor defending that led to Marcus Rashford’s opening goal.

But Klopp leapt to the defence of Alexander-Arnold (above, with his Kop boss) and accused pundits who pointed the finger at him for the goal of having no idea about football.

“I don’t get it,” said Klopp. “They said we defended badly? If somebody said it was only Trent’s mistake, then he has no idea about football and I wouldn’t listen.”

But Klopp did hint that he thought Liverpool centre-half Dejan Lovren was culpable for Rashford’s opener.

“Dejan Lovren, in the first challenge, could have done something different but it’s difficult. We were not there for the second ball and then it’s Trent.

“I have to see it again but I thought when I first saw it that Rashford had done brilliantly. At the exact moment Trent was ready for the challenge, he made a cut-back and in the next moment he shoots. It’s the perfect striker movement.

“It’s easy afterwards to talk about it but I’m not interested. The pundits don’t give us points, they don’t cost us points, they are only the deliverer of good and bad messages, that’s all.

“We lost 2-1 but everybody could see we’re strong. We took them to the edge, even after we went 2-0 down. It’s really rare that you can turn a game against United but we were close and actually we should have done it.”
