Stokes faces summer trial over bust-up
CRICKETER Ben Stokes will go on trial in August accused of affray.
He appeared in court via video link from New Zealand, where he is with the England squad.
The 26-year-old said, “Hi, judge”, when introduced to judge Peter Blair QC at Bristol crown court.
He appeared alongside Ryan Ali, 28, and Ryan Hale, 26, both from the city. All three indicated they would deny the charge.
It follows a fracas outside a nightclub last September, when a man of 27 allegedly suffered a fractured eye socket.
Stokes was suspended and missed the Ashes.
Judge Blair yesterday let the three remain on bail and told them: “You must be here without fail.” Stokes said: “Thank you”.
