‘Prescribe for three months’
PRESCRIPTIONS lasting three months instead of 28 days could save the NHS money and improve health, a study found.
Handing out drugs for long-term conditions this way could free up GPs and pharmacists, Cambridge University experts said.
Savings on statins alone could be £62million a year.
Co-author and health economist Dr Ed Wilson added that longer prescriptions were linked to “patients taking their medicines more regularly”.
