Choc horror over ‘rip off’ Easter eggs

- BY RUKI SAYID Consumer Editor

COSTLY Easter treats SHOPPERS shelling out for Easter eggs are paying over the odds for the chocolate they get, research suggests.

Cadbury Fruit & Nut fans get better value for money from a 200g bar for £1.50 – 75p per 100g of chocolate – compared with a £10 Easter egg, which is £1.78 per 100g.

The study by price comparison site Finder. com also revealed treats by popular brands such as KitKat and Maltesers were pricier in fancy packaging.

Finder.com’s chief executive, Jon Ostler, said: “Try shopping around for the best deals, such as at discount stores, or stick to chocolate bars to avoid the mark-up on Easter Eggs.”

Brits are expected to blow £893million on food and drink this Easter.
