Plea for inquiry into Telford sex abuse scandal
HOME Secretary Amber Rudd is coming under pressure to launch a full independent public inquiry into the abuse scandal in Telford.
The Labour leader of Telford Council, Shaun Davies, said: “The way forward must now be a Government-commissioned independent inquiry.” He had previously rejected calls for an inquiry, insisting the council had “nothing to hide”, but changed his mind after the Mirror’s revelations there may be 1,000 victims.
West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “I would support whatever scrutiny is appropriate and necessary.”
One Telford victim, “Holly”, told BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire Show how a sexual health clinic gave her the morning-after pill twice a week for three years without questioning why.
