‘JONES WON’T GET IN SEXTON’S HEAD – HE’S SHEER CLASS’
EDDIE JONES has been told there is nothing in his box of tricks capable of upsetting Johnny Sexton.
The last Anglo-Irish clash at Twickenham was overshadowed by Jones’ attempt to unsettle Sexton.
England’s boss questioned the selection of the fly-half, who has a history of head injuries, so soon after his most recent knock.
Jones later said he would apologise after saying Sexton’s “mother and father would be worried”.
England won the game but, two years on, Sexton returns to London one win from an Irish Grand Slam – and with kicking coach Richie Murphy declaring him the best thing since sliced bread. “Johnny is a class player, he could fit into any team,” said Murphy (left), confirming the playmaker would be fit for Saturday. He sees things so well and has been around for quite a time now.
“His understanding of the game and ability to organise players is second to none. He is a fair bit more mature than he was maybe at the start. There are very few things that happen in a game that he hasn’t seen before.”
