ALTIOR can kick his Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase rivals into touch (3.30, ITV) after an infected foot was given the all-clear yesterday.
Nicky Henderson revealed his superstar eight-year-old was suffering from lameness after pus was found in his foot. But Altior trotted up sound in the Seven Barrows stable yard before cantering on the Lambourn gallops yesterday morning, and Henderson said: “He was 100 per cent. “At least he had the good sense to do it on Monday! He’s fit and hasn’t missed any work.” Altior – unbeaten in five runs over hurdles – has been imperious in seven starts over fences, including on his belated return to the fray when he humbled Politologue by four lengths in Newbury’s Betfair Exchange Chase last month. Now back in rude health, Nico de Boinville’s mount shouldn’t be opposed.
