Latics boss has deja vu

-

THE last time a manager took Wigan to an FA Cup date at Wembley, he ended up taking David Moyes’ job after knocking him out on the way.

That was 2013 when Roberto Martinez took over from the Scotsman at Everton after hammering them 3-0 in the sixth round.

This year, Paul Cook’s Wigan took Moyes’ West Ham apart in a similar manner in the fourth round and went on to pull off what was hailed by some as the giant-killing of the century against Manchester City (below).

Cook (above) is doing an impressive job at Wigan, just as he did at Portsmouth. As well as having every chance of making the FA Cup semi-finals by beating a managerless Southampton on Sunday, his side are three points off automatic promotion from League One – with two games in hand – and playing the kind of football that purists like.

Should Cook win promotion and reach the FA Cup semis, job offers will undoubtedly come from the big Championship sides to replace sacked managers.

The way West Ham are going, history could repeat itself – with Moyes being one of them.
