ENGLAND defended their decision to invite one of Saturday’s match officials to referee a training session.
Marius van der Westhuizen will run the line in Grand Slam-chasing Ireland’s date with destiny.
Yet he spent Tuesday at Red Rose HQ helping England with their preparations – unbeknown to Ireland.
Defence coach Paul Gustard, who claimed it was a long-standing invitation, said: “You are asking someone, who is one of the best referees, to come in here and assist in training, give his viewpoint on things. I see no issue with it at all.”
