Carragher driver also in the wrong

- FIONA PARKER Edited by

#THE Jamie Carragher spitting row has gone far enough. He has apologised for his loss of control and has paid the price by being suspended from his Sky Sports job until next season. His apology has been accepted by the family.

Now we read trolls are targeting Andy Hughes who filmed the clip on his mobile (Mirror, March 14). He has been spoken to by police about the dangers of using a phone while driving and is unlikely to repeat his actions. We should be prepared to draw a line under this sorry episode.

#Jamie Carragher should be sacked from Sky. I was shocked by the mobile phone footage and I’m at a loss as to why he reacted in such an extreme and disgusting way.

By spitting, he abused that poor girl and this case should be put in police hands, even though the girl and her family have been more forgiving. I believe if it had been anyone else, the outcome would be

rather different.

#While I certainly don’t condone the actions of Jamie Carragher, the man in the other car was allegedly goading him and filming him while driving, yet apparently has been “given advice” by police. Other drivers caught using a phone while driving are subject to a £200 fine and penalty points, so why has he got off so lightly? Paulette Pawley, Derby

#So, Mr Carragher thinks a simple apology for his actions will allow him to continue in his megabucks contract at Sky? If he’s back next season, I’ll cancel my Sky contract. I won’t allow any of my money to pay for someone who thinks the answer to taunts is to spit at a young girl.

What should also be taken into consideration is the example this gives to others. How can his actions be ignored if the West Ham fans are charged for their idiocy last Saturday?

#Name any sport, either pro or amateur, and you’ll find the disgusting habit of spitting. Jamie Carragher has been a role model to youngsters, and, although now retired from playing, he still has an influential position as a pundit.

An apology for spitting on a child is not enough, nor is his Sky suspension. He needs to be sacked as an example to others. Brian Davies, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

#The Jamie Carragher incident was in itself disgusting and it is right that he should face the consequences of his actions. However, Greater Manchester Police deciding that the driver of the offending car should not be prosecuted for using his mobile phone while driving, and instead be given “advice”, is a joke. Using a mobile phone while driving can result in death and the driver should also face the consequences – a £200 fine and six penalty points.

# Jamie Carragher’s actions were unacceptable and it’s right he has been suspended. Sky does not tolerate its football presenters making headlines for the wrong reasons.

But I think the police should have charged the driver for filming the incident on his mobile as he was putting lives at risk, including that of his daughter. John Macandrew Leeds
