Oldest rescue dog finds new home age 20

SNOWY the West Highland terrier proves it’s never too late for a new start as he is re-homed as Britain’s oldest rescue dog at 20 years old.

He has taken the big change in his stride, despite being the equivalent of 140 in human terms.

Snowy was put up for adoption after his owner became ill and could no longer care for him.

And while older dogs in rescue centres are often overlooked by would-be owners, Snowy was soon snapped up by Margaret Millar.

Margaret, 67, of Wigan, Greater Manchester, said: “He’s lovely and is doing really well. He is partially sighted but has soon found his feet and knows his way around.

“Most of the time he just likes to potter about but he definitely livens up when it’s time for food.

“Before Snowy my oldest dog was Ben, my 16-year-old Yorkshire terrier. Snowy has fitted in wonderfully. It’s like a retirement home for dogs.”

Snowy is five times the average age of a dog at Dogs Trust.

Georgina Lowery of Dogs Trust Merseyside said: “We know he’ll be very, very happy with Margaret.”
