Seven-month Karl Friedrich clamped his gums on the sacred digit as the Pontiff met families at the Vatican in Rome.

Police called to break up the fight said she would be prosecuted for possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Officers in Birmingham centre tweeted a picture of the pin saying: “Thankfully there was no chance to inflict injury with it.”

The mass fight follows four nights of violence in the city centre last month where gangs of up to 80 youths were involved in pitched battles.

Police were given extra stop-and-search powers to deal with young people travelling with knives and hammers to fight.

Three police officers were assaulted and a 17-year-old was stabbed in the hands and leg. Four youths were arrested, including a 16-year-old who was charged with assaulting two officers.
