EARLY TROPHY CRUCIAL FOR GIGGS

- BY JAMES NURSEY

RYAN GIGGS named his first Wales squad and targeted lifting the China Cup as he brings his winning mentality from Manchester United.

The tournament takes place next week (March 22-26) in Nanning, and also features China, Uruguay and the Czech Republic. Gareth Bale is included in the Welsh squad, but Aaron Ramsey is missing the trip for an operation.

Giggs, who won the Premier League 13 times, plus the Champions League twice and four FA Cups, at United from 19902014, wants early international silverware. He said: “We go there because we want to win it, we don’t want to just make up the numbers. Even if it’s the China Cup, you win something. “My first trophy was the League Cup in 1992, but it is what it gives – that feeling of winning and achieving. You don’t want to be watching another team lift the trophy. Winning any game or trophy gives you a lift.”

Bale (left) is due to travel after Real Madrid’s La Liga game against Girona on Sunday. Giggs added: “There are players for whom it is an ideal trip to get games and minutes under their belt, and it is for Gareth.”
